Precise tools, advanced algorithms — WaveLab 7
WaveLab 7 is one of the most powerful and versatile audio editing and processing applications on the market today and combines the facilities of many other products within one, intuitive, flexible application.
Audio Editing (Stereo, Multi-Track)
WaveLab 7 features sample-accurate stereo or multi-track audio editing combined with impressive effects for sound design. Depending on the editing task, users may chose between a destructive stereo editor and the powerful non-destructive, clip-based Audio Montage for stereo or multi-track projects.
The Audio Montage allows real-time fades and cross fades, clip-based effects with effect morphing between adjacent clips and track-based effects through the Master section. With unlimited undo/redo and the powerful batch processing and archiving features, no other single software tool can match the truly exceptional WaveLab 7 feature set in its price range.
Audio Restoration
WaveLab 7 not only allows for complex and precise equalization or dynamics processing. With the Sonnox DeNoiser, DeClicker and DeBuzzer tools, it also includes the latest restoration plug-in technology available on the market — best suited to accurately restore impaired audio recordings.
The powerful DeNoiser plug-in effectively removes constant background noise, while maintaining the ambience of a recording. DeClicker is the right choice to eliminate pops, clicks and crackles and with DeBuzzer, you can precisely remove humming noises like the mains hum. Advanced algorithms, a straightforward user interface and detailed visual feedback make this suite the first choice for the most demanding audio restoration works.
Multimedia Sound Design
Besides its powerful editing and processing features, WaveLab 7 supports major multimedia audio file formats like Windows Media, WMA Pro, and various MPEG formats. Instead of inconvenient importing or exporting, WaveLab 7 natively supports all of these formats and allows for direct opening and saving of files in any of its supported formats. In combination with the powerful batch processing functions, WaveLab 7 becomes the tool of choice for any file-conversion task.
Institutional Applications
WaveLab 7 has many applications beyond mastering or music- and audio production. Its powerful recording and processing features have made it the number one choice for scientific audio archiving and restoration, as well as more sophisticated laboratory applications including forensic analysis. WaveLab is known for its reliability and its ease-of-use. Its highly customizable workflow and the powerful user-preset and batch processing features, plus its compatibility with many different file formats leave enough room for a perfect integration into practically any thinkable audio laboratory environment.
CD Mastering
CD Mastering is more than just squeezing maximum loudness out of music tracks and putting these into the right order for creating a CD. A mastering studio has to match and adjust levels, equalization, spatial integration and many other audio aspects between different audio tracks in order to create a coherent acoustic experience across the entire CD.
WaveLab 7 makes the creation of complex transitions and cross fades between titles very easy. WaveLab 7 provides intuitive track assembly, audio editing and applying effects or cross fades down to accurate CD marker and PQ editing is very fast and intuitive. With WaveLab 7 you can create a CD image file or burn the project directly to CD and optionally compare the final CD to the master image for error checking and repair. The latest incarnation of WaveLab also features a completely new burning engine and support for the industry-standard DDP format. No other audio editing software offers such a complete set of CD mastering features.
Broadcast Production & Batch Processing
Besides outstanding sound quality and data integrity, workflow optimization and system integration are some of the key requirements in professional broadcast facilities. WaveLab 7 offers state-of-the-art 24-bit / 384 kHz resolution and 64-bit floating-point precision, which results in exceptional sound quality and processing accuracy. In Addition, WaveLab 7 supports the MPEG 1 Layer 2 (M.U.S.I.C.A.M.) file format, which is commonly used in digital broadcast systems, as well as Broadcast WAV, the extended WAV format that includes additional information in the file header.
But clearly the most exciting features for broadcast users are the scripting capabilities in combination with user presets and batch processing functions. When combined, these functions allow for perfect integration of WaveLab 7 into the existing workflow, including automated file import, format conversion and signal processing. Using the new API scripting interface WaveLab 7 can run even difficult processing tasks in the background without even being touched.
What's New
Connect to the core of WaveLab: WaveLab 7.2 is the latest free update to Steinberg’s award-winning solution for mastering, audio editing and restoration. The new version includes 64-bit versions for Mac and Windows platforms and adds full remote control support for Steinberg’s CI, CMC or CC121 control devices or any other MIDI-compatible hardware. Other highlights include an Export-to-SoundCloud function, an updated version of the Dirac algorithm and several workflow and user interface improvements.
Remote control support: WaveLab 7.2 comes with a comprehensive remote control support, perfectly integrated with your CI, CMC series and CC121 controller hardware. Adjust plug-in parameters, volume levels or the stereo pan — faster and more convenient than before. Best of all, WaveLab 7.2 also supports the AI knob technology, allowing you to seamlessly control all program parameters with one central knob directly from your Steinberg hardware.
Of course, WaveLab 7.2 is also ready to be used with up to three other MIDI-based control surfaces supporting the MIDI learn function, which lets you easily assign the controls of your hardware to a specific parameter within the application.*
WaveLab 64-bit experience: WaveLab 7.2 and WaveLab Elements 7.2 are now available as 64-bit versions for Mac OS X Lion and Windows 7 platforms. Edit hundreds of tracks simultaneously, handle extensive batch processes or analyze and restore audio material with utmost precision — with the advent of 64-bit support, your WaveLab experience will be faster than ever. And all the included VST 3 plug-ins, such as the advanced Sonnox restoration suite, are already available as 64-bit versions.
SoundCloud support: Share your recordings with people around the world — SoundCloud is the perfect place to let others hear what you have recorded, mixed and mastered. With WaveLab 7.2, uploading a track to your SoundCloud account can be done within just a few clicks. Simply choose “Upload to SoundCloud” in WaveLab’s File menu or the option in the WaveLab 7 render dialog and you are done.
Time-stretching and pitch-shifting for professionals: The latest version of the award-winning Dirac time-stretching algorithm now includes several improvements and provides an even better quality. Dirac 3.5 works wonders on polyphonic audio material and stands in a class of its own.
Your session, your layout: New startup dialog WaveLab 7.2 comes with a new start up dialog where you can easily choose a window layout that is opened when WaveLab starts. You can define your own, personalized layouts or pick one of the factory presets — it takes just a few moments to set up your session.**
Enhanced DDP file handling Speed up your production process: WaveLab 7.2 features an enhanced DDP file workflow. Once you have created a new DDP file, WaveLab 7.2 automatically offers a button that let’s you import the DDP file directly into the Audio Montage area for further adjustments.
After importing DDP files, WaveLab 7.2 now labels clips and markers with more appropriate names, allowing you to easily identify the imported files. Last but not least, WaveLab 7.2 brings enhanced file quality by offering an option to verify the DDP file checksum.**
Enhanced marker handling: Marker window Creating and editing markers has always been an important part of the WaveLab workflow. In WaveLab 7.2 this workflow has been streamlined as this new version introduces a floating marker window, allowing you to easily create, name — simply manage — all markers and regions in your project.
Workflow improvements: Now you can change fader values using the computer mouse wheel. Plus, pressing Shift allows for fine adjustments, whereas pressing Alt allows for coarse adjustments.
Save Copy option: Handling several projects and revisions of opened sessions can often be confusing. WaveLab’s Save As function now includes a Save Copy option. No matter if you want to save an audio file or the entire Audio Montage — when this option is activated, a copy of the opened document is saved and the document continues to refer to the source file.
CD-related enhancements: The CD Wizard now includes options to name and rename markers and the CD Report dialog contains a text-based report generator. Plus, the total CD time is now being displayed within the CD tool-window.*
Windows scripting: In addition to the internal WaveLab scripting possibilities, Windows scripting allows you to control WaveLab from an external application (not to be mixed up with internal WaveLab scripting).**
