The Wolf Man
The Wolf Man is a classic horror about a man who returns home to his father after his brothers death, while staying with his father and trying to make amends with him he meets an array of new people and he seems to like it. But things take a turn for the worst when he is bitten by a werewolf and becomes one himself.
The Wolf Man (1941), directed by George Waggner, restored and remastered, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including original theatrical dual mono, commentary track, and subtitles in nine languages.
IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034398/
Video encoded in two-pass 7 500 kbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image.
English SDH and Spanish subtitles proofed and corrected. All other subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned.
Note : Another classic Universal Monster movie here, and most of you probably know it, at least by reputation. It's a short, simple affair, and while Lon Chaney Jr. hams it up a bit (and comes off as really creepy and stalkerish with the love interest in the beginning), the Chaney family talent quickly shows itself, and he sells the conflicted, tragic character with aplomb. The supporting cast is a collection of Universal all-stars, including Claude Rains, who also does a great job, as well as Bela Lugosi, maybe revealing his range isn't all that great. The story is not very complicated, and it's a character drama more than a parade of horrors, but it's well worth watching.
Like most of these Universal restored editions, this looks very good, silky black and white photography with pleasant but not overly prominent grain, and sound causes no complaints either. The commentary track with Tom Weaver is as usual very informative, as well as a bit snarky and amusing at times.
