The Funhouse (1981), directed by Tobe Hooper, Shout! Factory 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including 5.1 remaster, original theatrical stereo, four commentary tracks, isolated score, and English and German subtitles.

IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082427/

Video encoded in two-pass 11 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image.

English SDH subtitles converted to SRT, proofed and corrected.

Note : Tobe Hooper does an atypical slasher movie about a killer at a travelling carnival, with a bunch of phantasmagorical visuals reminiscent of the style of Dario Argento, and the result is... actually pretty good? Yeah, this little-known film was apparently the reason he was hired to direct Poltergeist, although it's a very different kind of thing. Simple and straightforward, carried mostly by some pretty good performances and a bunch of super-saturated, nightmarish carnival visuals, it's no masterpiece, but a very solid slasher from the very peak of the slasher boom.

Amy goes out on a double date with a new potential boyfriend and their friends, and they visit a traveling carnival, against Amy's parents' wishes, since murders have happened where the carnival has been visiting. After messing around and getting high, getting their fortune told, peeping at a strip show, and viewing a selection of freaks, they go on a dark ride in "The Funhouse", where they decide to jump off the cars and stay the night to have sex. While there, they witness a deformed carny paying for sex with and then murdering the fortuneteller, and they end up being chased through the (surprisingly huge) funhouse by the carny and his barker father, who will do anything to protect their secret.

This is a quite nice looking 4k remaster, with decent grain, very good contrast and saturation, and decent detail. It's maybe a bit too contrasty, with slightly crushed blacks, but I honestly prefer that to a washed-out transfer. 5.1 remaster sounds good, and a wide selection of commentary tracks gives you all the information you might want.
