Countess Dracula
Based on the story of Elisabeth Bathory, the 18th century Countess who indulged herself in an orgy of murder and vampirism before before being walled up in her room by the authorities. The ageing Countess Dracula discovers that the blood of young virgins has a restorative effect on her celebrated beauty. Years later, she becomes engaged to a handsome young Hussar and is forced to repeat vile atrocities with ever-increasing regularity to hold off old age.
Countess Dracula (1971), directed by Peter Sasdy, remastered, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including original theatrical stereo and English subtitles.
IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065580/
Video encoded in two-pass 9 500 kbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image.
Subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned.
Note : As Hammer moved into the 70s, censorship became more lax in the UK, and that's definitely on display here, with a fair amount of nudity and sexual suggestion, although most of it's brief. This is a pretty straightforward adaptation of the Elizabeth Báthory legend, written and directed by native Hungarians, no less, and it's not bad, if not very surprising or unpredictable. This also marks the first film I do starring Ingrid Pitt, infamous horror sex symbol of the 70s, and we'll definitely get more acquainted with her soon.
Countess Elizabeth Nádasdy accidentally discovers that her youthful appearance and libido can be (temporarily) restored by the liberal application of the blood of young women, and she takes on the identity of her own young daughter, who she has locked away. It turns out, however, that only virgin blood will actually do the job, and things get very complicated as she plans to marry a young officer.
This is a bare-bones, not fantastic quality remaster, image is a little fuzzy and noisy, sound ok, but it works for what it is. No commentary tracks or extras of any kind.
