Dracula: Prince of Darkness
Whilst vacationing in the Carpathian Mountain, two couples stumble across the remains of Count Dracula's castle. The Count's trusted servant kills one of the men, suspending the body over the Count's ashes so that the blood drips from the corpse and saturates the blackened remains. The ritual is completed, the Count revived and his attentions focus on the dead man's wife who is to become his partner; devoted to an existence of depravity and evil.
Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966), directed by Terence Fisher, US uncut version, Shout! Factory 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including original theatrical stereo, three commentary tracks, and English subtitles.

Note : Time to raise the stakes again with another Hammer Studios Dracula film, this time the second in the series to feature Christopher Lee. Yes, I skipped Brides of Dracula so you could have a hol-Lee, jol-Lee Halloween, but I'll do it later. This time, there's no Van Helsing, (well, except for a flashback to the first film during the credits), but rather our friend from last week's Hammer film, Andrew Keir, as a gun-toting monk and expert on vampirism. This is the US version, which is in this case the uncut one, UK censorship cut about 12 seconds of blood and seduction, and we all know that's what we're here for.
Father Sandor is a voice of reason in the countryside, speaking out against superstition about vampirism, now that Dracula's been destroyed for a good decade. He runs into a group of English tourists, and turns serious when he learns they're planning to visit Karlsbad, for unspecified reasons. They pay no mind, and end up at a creepy castle that at first seems abandoned, but then is revealed to be kept "always ready for guests" by order of its late owner, and attended by a weird butler. Soon enough, throats are slit, blood is mixed with vampiric ashes, and Dracula materializes, although it seems the ashes from his voice box were missing, since all he does in this film is hiss. Sandor and the surviving English tourists must join forces to ice this sucker once and for all.
Sadly, this Shout! Factory "4k remaster" is extremely denoised, and so really doesn't gain anything from being scanned in 4k at all, there's no fine detail, and grain is reduced to slightly flickering blotches. The color is also quite faded and not very consistent. Still, it is what it is, and some of the cinematography is quite nice despite all this. Stereo track is fine, the commentary tracks are good, especially the cast one, as Lee is always fun to listen to.
