Street Trash

Comedy Horror

When a liquor store owner finds a case of "Tenafly Viper" in his cellar, he decides to sell it to the local hobos at one dollar a bottle, unaware of its true properties. The drinks causes its consumers to melt, very messily.

Note : Here's a fun horror comedy for Christmas, an entry in the tiny but influential "melt" subsubsubgenre of body horror, focused on people melting into goo. This is a black comedy which tries as hard as possible to be offensive, which, given it's from the 80s, says quite a lot. It's fun because the melting goo effects don't try to be at all realistic, but rather look like the brightly colored slime of a Nickelodeon show circa 1992. It also features rape, necrophilia, decapitation, people playing catch with a severed penis, and plenty of nudity, so, you know, a funny movie. The vibe reminds me a bit of Repo Man, too.

A liquor store proprietor in pre-hipster Brooklyn finds a case of expired booze hidden in the basement, and decides to sell it off cheap. However, this "Tenafly Viper" is not particularly safe for human consumption, and melts those who drink it into colorful goo from the inside out, or, in some cases, makes them explode into a shower of organs and slime. Nearby, a colony of homeless people try to survive in a local junkyard ruled over by a tyrannical Vietnam vet (hitting all the 80s exploitation movie marks here), and when the mysterious deaths start, a zealous cop steps in, complicating things further.

This remaster looks better than this film has any right to, to be honest, fairly clean, sharp, nice color and contrast. 5.1 track also sounds good, and both the commentary tracks are well worth listening to.

HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords. Try searching for “hevk body horror” for more unfortunate things happening to unsuspecting bodies, “hevk horror comedy” for more comedy, often black, or “hevk 80s” for more from the decade when homeless people were prime comedy fodder.
