Note : Merry Christmas, you filthy animals, and what's more in the Christmas spirit than a tale of actual angels descending from heaven on a quest to change the world and the fate of mankind? So anyway, here's Christopher Walken as the archangel Gabriel, backed up by a rock-solid cast consisting of Elias Koteas doing his best young DeNiro, Virginia Madsen, Eric Stoltz, Viggo Mortensen as Lucifer, and Amanda Plummer, all orbiting around a young child with imbued with spiritual power. It's also directed by the guy who wrote Highlander, so that'll give you an idea of the tone. Get your Christmas cheer on!

Thomas Dagget is a seminarian who loses his faith after experiencing visions of a war in heaven, and decides he'd rather join the LAPD, where he becomes a detective. The angel Simon is on earth, and warns Dagget of things to come, and then kills another angel, Uziel. Dagget investigates and finds links to a Colonel Hawthorne, who recently died, and who was being investigated for war crimes. In the small town of Chimney Rock, Simon extracts Hawthorne's soul from his body and hides it in the body of a young girl. Meanwhile, Gabriel has arrived on earth, and he goes on to destroy the corpse of Uziel in the morgue, then gets on the way to Chimney Rock, where Dagget is also headed, investigating Hawthorne. The inhabitants of the town get dragged into a war between opposing factions of angels, as Lucifer himself arrives to thwart Gabriel's nefarious plans.

This is a quite nice 4k remaster, subtle grain, good contrast and color, sharp enough. 5.1 track is nice and clean, and both commentary tracks are interesting.
