Tokyo Gore Police
Set in a future-world vision of Tokyo where the police have been privatized and bitter self-mutilation is so casual that advertising is often specially geared to the "cutter" demographic, this is the story of samurai-sword-wielding Ruka and her mission to avenge her father's assassination. Ruka is a cop from a squad who's mission is to destroy homicidal mutant humans known as "engineers" possessing the ability to transform any injury to a weapon.

Note : When talking about extreme Japanese cinema, it's hard to get around this one, the feature directing debut of Yoshihiro Nishimura, who's mostly a special effects artist, designing effects for several titles well-known to you deviants, like Suicide Club, The Machine Girl, and Horny House of Horror. This film is a hyperkinetic mix of a hundred ideas, from private cyberpunk cops in samurai-inspired armor, mutants that regrow body parts into weapons when injured, castrations, undercover geishas, mutant sex clubs, alligator mouth pussy, giant tumor dicks, far-reaching conspiracies, rubber-clad amputees in gas masks, and, of course, human bodies containing hundreds of gallons of blood under extremely high pressure. It stars Eihi Shiina, who you probably remember from Audition, but several other well-known faces from Japanese genre cinema show up, including Itsuji Itao, Shun Sugata, and Tak Sakaguchi. I think you probably already know if this is for you or not, but buckle up, you're in for a ride, one where you'll often ask yourself "Is this someone's fetish"? And yes, it is. It's someone Japanese's fetish.
In the dystopian future, Japan is troubled by mutants called Engineers, blamed on a mysterious man known as "Key Man", who's created a mutagenic virus. Engineers regrow organs into weapons and... other things when injured, and the Tokyo Police, now privatized, has responded by creating a special squad that uses the ultra-violence necessary to kill engineers. Ruka is an elite member of this squad, while seeking revenge on the man who killed her father. However, when she tracks down the Key Man, he inserts a key-shaped tumor into her arm and disappears, while the police chief gets castrated and infected by the Engineer virus at a sex club, and goes on a rampage through the police force with his newly grown megapenis, leading to the Tokyo police comissioner declaring open season on all Engineers. Meanwhile, Ruka uncovers the identity of the Key Man, but this leads to revelations about her father's murder and a conspiracy that goes higher than she could suspect.
This film was shot on early digital, and it certainly shows, although the cinematography can also be quite nice at times. There's no grain or noise to speak of, and detail is decent, but at least contrast and color is ok, and the cutting is frenetic enough that if you don't like the current shot, don't worry, another one will come along in less than a second. 5.1 tracks both sound good. I wouldn't have minded some commentary.
