Note : The only feature film directed by legendary graphic, title, and poster designer Saul Bass, this is a psychedelic 70s oddity about superintelligent ants taking over the world and ushering in a new age, and it's... a lot. It's very good looking, with a bunch of iconic shots, and also has many interesting ideas, although it gets a bit woo-woo and doesn't quite come together, and that's if you accept the pretty ludicrous premise in the first place. Definitely worth seeing if you like weird 70s sci-fi, though, and, again, the visuals are often great, especially the macro photography of the ants' activity, and the limited cast, consisting mostly of Nigel Davenport, Michael Murphy, and Lynne Frederick, is pretty good too. Also included here is a rarity, the MST3k track from one of the very first episodes, episode 9 of the KTMA era, the very first season. The audio's a bit rough, but it's an essential part of MST3k history.

After a mysterious cosmic events, ants of different species undergo rapid evolution and start working together. They build seven geometrical towers in the Arizona desert, causing the majority of the population in the area to flee. Two scientists, Lesko and Hubbs, set up a sealed dome with a lab, and start studying the ants, although the relationship soon turns antagonistic, as the scientists use pesticides on the ants, while the ants infiltrate the lab and sabotage equipment. A young woman named Kendra, lone survivor of a family that stayed in the ants area of activity, takes refuge with them, and while Hubbs makes plan to attack the queen and kill off the colony, Lesko believes he can use mathematics to communicate with the ants. As the ants' counterattacks increase in intensity, Kendra decides to sacrifice herself, while Lesko's mental state deteriorates as he's determined to strike back.

This 4k remaster looks quite good, with nice color and contrast, and decent detail, but the grain is very variable, and in parts quite prominent, so I've gone for a high bitrate which will hopefully preserve everything. Original mono track sounds good, as does the alternate track (I'm not quite sure what the difference is, but it seems to be an earlier home media mix), both the commentary tracks are interesting, and the MST3k track, while not great quality, clearly shows the beginnings of the comedy chops that would characterize the show.

HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords. Try searching for “hevk sci-fi horror” for more scientific speculation with horrible implications, “hevk mst3k” for more films with our favorite riffers on them, or “hevk 70s” for more from the decade when you could just cross dissolve some interesting images for a cool ending to your sci-fi film.
