Halloween 4: The Return of Michael ...
The legend of that creepy masked-man, Michael Myers, comes to life once again in this fourth installment of the successful horror franchise. This time, it's Michael's niece, Jamie, who can't seem to escape her crazy uncle. With Michael on the loose, Jamie enlists the help of good old Dr. Loomis to stop the murderer. This time, though, there seems to be no end to Michael's madness.

Note : It's Michael Myers. He returns. What more is there to say? Well. This is the first film in the controversial "Thorn trilogy", which reintroduces Michael Myers with more explicitly supernatural elements based on Celtic myth. That's right, Halloween is folk horror now, maybe not that unexpectedly. I know people's opinions are pretty divided on this one, but I think it's entertaining enough for what it is. Cast includes a returning (again and again) Donald Pleasence, as well as newcomers Danielle Harris, Ellie Cornell, Michael Pataki, and George P. Wilbur as Michael Myers.
Ten years after the second film, Michael Myers is being transferred to another mental facility, and although he's heavily sedated, he manages to overhear the people in the ambulance mentioning he has a niece in Haddonfield, which rouses him to his usual task of murdering. Dr. Loomis, half his face burned from the Haddonfield hospital explosion, gives chase. Loomis tracks Michael to a gas station, but Michael races off in a tow truck, setting off an explosion that severs the phone lines. After some indignities, Loomis arrives in Haddonfield, where he goes about warning the new sheriff, while Laurie's daughter and Michael's niece, Jamie, suffers from nightmares about Michael. Jamie's with a foster family, whose teenage daughter takes her to buy a Halloween costume, but suddenly, Michael shows up! However, he runs away, so that wasn't so bad. Later on Halloween night, Michael disables the town's electricity in the most slasherly way possible, and sets about hunting down his niece, not letting anyone, including the sheriff's buxom daughter, get in the way.
This is a fine transfer, poppy color, good contrast, and decent grain and detail. 7.1 track sounds good, as does the original stereo, and both commentary tracks are fairly interesting.
