Note : A low-budget British 80s horror here, which is notable for a few reasons. First of all, the screenplay was written by none other than Clive Barker, although it's not exactly his finest hour (he'd team up with director Pavlou again soon after for a more interesting film we'll get to soon). Secondly, the music was composed by a new wave band called Freur, which later started making electronic music and took their name from this film, becoming Underworld. And thirdly, it features horror icon Ingrid Pitt in a supporting role. The costuming is cosplay-level, the story is original, but too ambitious, the locations are a bit cramped, but at least the cinematography is decent, if you enjoy the look of early 80s music videos. The cast, gamely putting on their best faces, also includes Denholm Elliott,  Nicola Cowper, Steven Berkoff, Larry Lamb, and Miranda Richardson.

A gang of very flamboyant thugs attack a high-end brothel, sedating and abducting a sex worker named Nicole. As they make their getaway, one of them stays and fights the brothel's security, revealing himself to be a beastly-looking giant. An obviously corrupt, cigar-choping businessman with questionable taste in suits hires a man of action named Bain, who happens to be Nicole's former lover, to get her back. Bain's snooping around the brother puts him on the trail of a doctor named Savary, who was treating Nicole, but also apparantly supplying her with a mysterious drug. We soon discover that it's Savary who's kidnapped Nicole, and he's keeping her under observation in his lair in the London sewers, which is also full of mutant weirdos he's created. As Bain investigates further, he's confronted by the mutants, visits a gay bar of some sort, and finds out that the stuff Nicole was on might be more than a simple street drug, and its effects has vast repercussions.

This is a fine 4k remaster of what was obviously somewhat limited source material, but it has nice color and contrast, decently controlled grain, and as much detail as you can probably get out of this. The stereo track also sounds aggressively ok, and the commentary track is at least an attempt at an explanation.

HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords. Try searching for “hevk body horror” for more of one of my favorite subgenres, where drugs and surgery often have strange consequences, “hevk british” for more films from the country where film ambitions were often larger than film budgets, or “hevk 80s” for more from the decade when Clive Barker was the new sensation in horror.
