Creepshow 2
EC Comics-inspired weirdness returns with three tales. In the first, a wooden statue of a Native American comes to life...to exact vengeance on the murderer of his elderly owners. In the second, four teens are stranded on a raft on a lake with a blob that is hungry. And in the third, a hit and run woman is terrorized by the hitchhiker she accidentally killed...or did she really kill him?
Creepshow 2 (1987), directed by Michael Gornick, Arrow remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including 5.1 remaster, original theatrical mono, commentary track, and English subtitles.

Note : The first Creepshow film was a big success, so of course it had to have a sequel, and five years later, we got this, a not quite so great follow up which still has a few surprises left in its bag of Stephen King short story adaptations. It's only three stories this time, the framing story is partially animated, and only one of the stories, the middle one, is really any good, but it's still decent fun. The cast is good as usual, with Tom Savini as the Creeper, George Kennedy, Lois Chiles, Dorothy Lamour, Don Harvey, and the always interesting and chameleonic Holt McCallany as an unrepentant villain.
As usual, the framing story is about a kid reading a comic and the consequences thereof. In the first story, an elderly couple run a general store in a small Western town, and end up in possession of some Native American jewelry, after which a bunch of hoodlums promptly turn up to steal it, and end up killing the couple. This, somehow, doesn't sit well with the cigar store Indian they keep outside the store, which becomes animate and starts hunting the perpetrators. In the second story, a group of teenagers go to swim in a lake in late summer, and end up stranded on a raft when the lake turns out to be inhabited by an amorphous, blob-like creature that breaks down and digests everything it touches. The last man standing turns out to be a bit of a rapist, so you can guess whether or not things turn out well for him. In the third story, a woman cheating on her husband is rushing to get home before him, and accidentally hits a hitchhiker. Since no one saw her, she decides to flee the scene, assuming she'll get off scot free, but since this is a Stephen King story inspired by EC Comics, that's probably not the likely outcome.
Unlike the first film, this hasn't gotten a 4k remaster, and the difference is quite noticeable. This isn't exactly bad, though, just softer, with less controlled color, although contrast is fine, and grain is restrained. 5.1 track sounds fine, as does the original mono, and in case you should be curious about the production, the director is on the commentary track ready to tell you all about it.
