Total Running Time: 9 hours 28 minutes
From the course:
A Simple but Aggressive Repertoire for Black Against Everything But 1. e4
“I just don’t know what to do against 1. d4” could be the most common repertoire problem for chess players. You could go for something boring and try to equalize or you could go all out and risk everything from the start. Or, with this repertoire, you could play a principled, testing opening that doesn’t require huge amounts of memorization.
In Play Black and Attack, Benner has created a compact repertoire that’s accessible to casual players whilst holding up to theory. This course covers everything you need to know against 1. d4, c4 and Nf3, along with other sidelines.
Many opening repertoires are aimed at strong players all the way up to masters. This is great if you’re already over 2000 Elo, but if you’re a club player then then the most commonly played lines at your level just aren’t the same.
Benner has taken this into consideration when developing the repertoire and focuses on lines that actually appear at the club level. Incredibly, White’s most popular continuation at the club level simply loses a pawn for nothing.
The Queen’s Gambit Accepted will be your main weapon but this course covers so much more:
♟️Coverage of White’s main attempts in the QGA
♟️An immediate challenge to White’s bishop in the London System
♟️Antidotes to the Jobava London, the Veresov and other d4 sidelines
♟️QGA-style setups against the Reti that mean you won’t get move-ordered into unknown territory
♟️A mini-repertoire against the English featuring 1… e5 - once again avoiding move order tricky and refusing to let White dictate the game
Along with the opening theory you’d expect, Play Black and Attack also features:
?A whole chapter dedicated to transpositions, so you’ll never be tricked into an opening you aren’t familiar with.
?Thematic tactics to train you in the most common tricks
?Model games that will give you a well-rounded understanding of your new opening, so you’ll be perfectly prepared to go right into the resulting middlegames.
?Benner has also introduced a new Student Model Games chapter - it’s currently empty, but you can find details inside the course of how to get your own game analyzed and added to the course by the author himself.
Benner is an author who practices what he preaches - he sports a 1600+ day streak on Chessable and has gained over 500 rating points since joining the site. With a 4.8 out of 5 score from user reviews, his courses have proved very popular with the Chessable community. Naturally, he plays his repertoire in his own games, so you know it’s been tested and will hold up even at the 2000+ level.
Combined with his other courses, The Lean and Mean O’Kelly Sicilian and The Relentless Reti, Benner has formed a coherent repertoire that club players can use to do real damage.
