The Irriducibili of Italian club Lazio and the Barras Bravas of Argentina's Boca Juniors.

The footage of mass pitched battles between supporters and riot police in both these countries
really put the small-scale skirmishes of the English hooligans into perspective.
Football violence may still exist in this country but English hooliporn is positively soft-core compared
to the hot continental action.

Barras Bravas ...

Barra brava is a name for organized supporter groups of football teams in Latin America.
This style of supporting is very similar to European ultras. It includes standing throughout the match,
singing and other enthusiastic behavior. Some barras bravas have developed reputations for hooliganism.
The phenomenon originated in Argentina and Uruguay in the 1950s and '60s, but it has spread throughout
the Americas in the '90s. In Brazil, the organized torcida plays a similar role and in Mexico both the term
barras and porras are used.
In Europe, another place where enthusiastic soccer fandom is not an unknown phenomenon,
the most hardcore groups of fans are called “ultras” – because they’re not just fans but ultrafans.
In Argentina (and in fact the rest of Latin America too) these groups are known as barras bravas,
which translates as something like “wild gangs.” Basically, each team has its ordinary fans…and then it has its barra brava.
Calling the barras bravas “organized soccer supporters groups” is one way of describing them, and the way
of describing them that the Argentine Soccer Association would prefer you to use,
but as we’ll see, “soccer hooligans” is a lot closer to the mark.

Irriducibili ...

The history of organized fan groups of S.S. Lazio, known in Italian as the tifoseria Laziale begins in the late 1960s,
in which small groups filled the steps of Stadio Olimpico in Rome. They belonged to different groups,
Tuparamos, Eagles, Ultras, Vigilantes, NAB, CAST and Marines which mostly consisted of youth.
During a Lazio-Padova match in 1987, a 10 metre long banner announced the arrival of a new Ultra group on the scene,
Irriducibili Lazio formed by Antonio Grinta. Irriducibili rose to power in the Curva Nord and revolutionised the way Lazio
fans supported their side. No more drums were used but English chanting styles were adopted.
This contrasted greatly with the Italian style of the Eagles Supporters, and by 1992, Irriducibili were by far Lazio's
most powerful group as the Eagles Supporters disbanded.
With the arrival of new president Sergio Cragnotti, Lazio qualified for European competition becoming
one of the world's strongest teams. During this period, Lazio ultras formed close ties with both the Interisti and Veronesi.
In addition to this relationships with supporters of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain developed.
